Entrepreneur/Business

During the summer youth hope infusions, the teens were taught to be proactive with basic business skills and their creativity. 100% of the profit from sales, initially only in our local community, went directly to the teens. Out of this experience, several students have continued in product development, earning funds for their educational goals and cost of living.  These creations include Power Pillows, Faith Jewels, and Blessing Boxes.  The goal is to develop an on-line product line, as well as the local Jamaican  tourist market. The products are also available for churches' mission projects.

Moments with the King

In 2016 Rev. Mary developed a burden for pastors' wives and women in ministry to come together in a safe, Holy Ghost filled atmosphere to share, edify one another, be inspired, pray together, and have fun and fellowship. A luxury villa in Montego Bay has been generously donated for this annual retreat, providing a beautiful environment for these women to spend "A Moment with the King." The next encounter will be September 4-6, 2020.

Rev. Mary, who has an anointed teaching ministry, as well as a writing gift, is available for women's conferences and a devotional blog entitled "A Moment with the King" coming soon.

Mentorship

Seeing the need for local young men preparing to leave high school make a successful transition to higher learning and responsible adulthood, New Beginnings offers guidance and support to a selected group of youth. The young men work for the ministry on Saturdays and attend church on Sundays, while receiving godly counsel, guidance, and financial support in pursuit of studies or training, i.e.  at H.E.A.R.T. academies, CAP, or CAPE programs.

Youth Hope Infusion

During the summer school reading program in 2016 New Beginnings observed there were almost as many teenage volunteers as primary students registered. These teens had their own need for fellowship and inspiration, so the following summer Youth Hope Infusion was launched under the theme Hope is the Anchor of Our Souls. Approximately 35 teens have attended the two week camp each summer since  then.  Mornings provide both spiritual and academic support and afternoons are targeted for creative production, sports and games.

Fun to Read Weeks

Literacy is not only key to every child's successful educational future, but also to strong spiritual foundations. The inability to read becomes an obstacle to learning the Word of God. The pilot Fun to Read Week in March, 2019, was a great success. Not only did the children have fun at a variety of learning stations, but the teachers were able to gain creative ideas for use in their classrooms. We anticipate repeating and expanding this outreach in 2020.

Basic Schools Outreach

Several years ago Mt. Peto Basic School reached out to New Beginnings for assistance with food. Believing that no child should go hungry, and that it is hard for a child to learn if their stomach growls louder than the lessons, a daily hot lunch program was provided. It has since grown to include two additional local rural, community based schools; Zion Mount in Bessie Baker and Axe and Adze. Altogether, approximately 75 children, ages 3-6, are nourished. We also provide Christmas gifts during the holidays, and on-going supplies and teaching aides in support of early childhood education.
